When we talk about two or more things we can compare them. We use comparative and superlative adjectives to describe the differences.
There are different spelling rules for the different forms of the adjectives. These rules are for higher levels and are not taught in this program.

Superlative adjectives are used to describe the extreme difference between three or more things. There are 2 ways to form superlative adjectives.
|
1. Add "est" to adjectives that have one syllable, such as the word "big". Add "est"' to adjectives that have two syllables and end in "y", such as the word "happy". The "y" changes to "i". "The" is placed before the adjective. the + adjective + est

We are the happiest family in the world. |

rich - the richest |
Bob is the richest man in the city. |

lazy - the laziest lazy - the laziest |
Lynn was the laziest student in our school. |

old - the oldest |
Jeff is the oldest person in our family. |
|
2. Add "most" when an adjective has two or more syllables, such as in the word "expensive". "The" comes before " most" and the adjective. The adjective is in simple form. the + most + adjective Examples: |

I own the most expensive car in our family. |
|
beautiful - the most beautiful |
She is the most beautiful woman at the party. |

crowded - the most crowded |
This is the most crowded theater in the city. |
|
"Good" and "bad" are adjectives with irregular forms. The superlative form of good is "best". The superlative form of bad is "worst". My teacher is the best in the school. He has the worst cold in the class. |
